Permaculture Design Course 2 - 14 September 2013
We are happy to be welcoming back the legendary Lesley Martin, coming to teach her 7th PDC here at the Várzea.
Lesley had been an organic farmer, before turning to teach Permaculture full time in 1997. After teaching a number of courses in the UK (including a 3 month extended course for the Department of Employment with George Sobol and Trevor Lawrence) she moved to Portugal in late 1998. Since then she has been kept busy teaching PDCs all over Portugal and is currently involved in setting up and running a Transition Town movement in Monchique - the small Market town in the Algarve which has become her home.
The 72 hour Internationally Recognised Permaculture Design Course uses a combination of theoretical and practical sessions to cover the following :
Ethics and Basic Principles
Practical Principles of Permaculture Design
Design Tools (Zoning, sectors, input output analysis, mindmapping...)
Landscape and Climate Zones
Vegetation (Both natural and Productive Landscapes)
Soils (Structure and Biology)
Water, the precious elixir
Water and soil - conservation and management systems (including Holistic Grassland management and Dryland Water harvesting)
The course culminates with a design workshop where participants will get a chance to practice their design skills by working in a small group to present a practical design for a particular aspect of the host farm.
