Christine (Kris) Lewis Cert.Ed.
Kris was born in London and spent her childhood between living in the UK and Australia. Whilst raising her family, she lived on a variety of boats on the British canals and rivers for 10 years, before studying Interior Design. She then progressed to qualifying in Education, and taught Interior Design at college in Wales, before moving to Portugal in 2006. Her teaching experience has now merged with Permaculture and she offers Teacher Training to adults. Kris lists her interest as just about everything design-orientated, including interiors, landscapes and architecture. She also enjoys building with clay, cooking and learning to play the djembe!!
Brendan Gaffney
Brendan moved to Portugal in 2009 with his partner Gaynor and their children, from the UK. For many years his profession was restoring medieval buildings, an interest that extended into his spare-time, in which he created ‘The Pit’. This unique, innovative structure was inspired by Brendan’s experiences of ancient tribal dwellings in Africa and the Far East. Films of the structure and events that were held there are available. Since living here, he has constructed our very popular bread oven area! Brendan is an accomplished Djembe drummer, who performed with, as well as designing and building sets for, KissyFaramaya between 1997 and 2003. He also taught drumming, with Wakulu from 2005 to 2008.
Gaynor Stanley
Gaynor has studied and excelled in a variety of dance styles, including ballet and later, African dancing which she went on to teach with Wukulu, a troupe of African dancers and drummers, in the UK. She frequently taught dance and performance in schools and at children’s summer courses and workshops. She was brought up in the restaurant trade and inherited her parent’s passion for good food. Since moving to Portugal, she has embraced the opportunity of combining that passion with her interest and natural ability in organic growing, and now works in the garden here as well as creating first-class vegetarian meals. Her eldest daughter, at 11 years of age, was one of the youngest students to have been awarded the Permaculture Design Certificate.
